The Karver of Karvers Kove.
Terry Koivisto turned to woodcarving /woodworking as a profession in 1975. During 1977, he studied with a more dedicated
and serious approach to carving, learning as much knowledge about lettering styles, finishing techniques and design in
the native woods of Northwestern Ontario, such as birch, white pine, cedar and black ash. Self taught, he carves for
quality, not quantity, but if the occasion arises, he will carve the quantity with the quality, and claims his carvings to
be both unique and one-of-a-kind...
With his introduction to the "Karvers Kurls" as he prefers to call them, it provides a unique and personal hand-carved
finish to the exterior and interior of homes, cottages, offices and businesses throughout North America. During the
1980's and 1990's, he built and designed custom cottages along the shores of Lake Superior and throughout Northwestern Ontario,
adding his carved appearance to enhance the characteristics of the buildings in a natural setting...
Born and raised as a northener in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) he built his cottage and studio at Pebbly
Beach, along the shoreline of Lake Superior in 1975, the same property his grandfather had squatted in 1929. He enjoys
time spent there with his partner Bevan, daughters Marla and Terra, and Grandchildren, Carver, Matthew and Leah, marking
5 generations of family at Pebbly...
Terry enjoys the people and the culture of Northwestern Ontario, what Mother Nature has to provide and offer to all who
live and visit here. He appreciates the great outdoors, especially the winter snow to which he spends many hours cross-country
skiing the frozen waters of Lake Superior. During the summer months, he pitches horseshoes competitively and in November
of 1998, he was inducted into the Ontario Horseshoe Hall of Fame.
Through this inspiration and his woodworking and woodcarving , he tries to bring out the beauty and creativity
in people, helping them realize that........
Wood is Wonderful.
